Birthday boy!

Shortstop turned 3 yesterday.  I still cannot believe that but I am coming to grips with it.  We had planned on going to Twin Falls to spend it with Grandma and Grandpa but Shortstop and Fullback both had a little bit of a cold and I hate being away from my home when I am sick so I can imagine kids are the same.  You just want your own space!  So we were VERY sad but ended up having a really great and relaxing day.  The night before, Mark worked on the balance bike, I laid out the presents and Shortstop's very own medal.

Such a good dad!  And pretty hot if I may add...

He woke up to balloons in his room and streamers in the doorway.  We tried to do a Wreck it Ralph theme with the colors (hence the medal) etc.  He loved seeing his presents out on the table and we let him open a few throughout the day...not that we had a choice.  He was VERY excited but still amazed me with how patient he was waiting until it was time to open all of them.

We had asked the birthday boy what he wanted to do, telling him we could go to BYU, the zoo, Salt Lake, the Provo Beach Resort...whatever he wanted.  And his response, "I want to do sidewalk chalk and kick the balloons around listening to music."  Ok then!

I told you it was relaxing.  In the afternoon he did ask to go to the Provo Beach Resort but the weirdest thing happened to the car.  We couldn't get it!  Every time we went to open the doors the alarm went off.  This has happened in the past but only once and we can shut the door and try again.  Nope!  Ten minutes it kept doing that and would not allow us to open the doors.  Shortstop was very understanding and said "We couldn't go cause the car kept beeping."  He was fine to hang out at home.  Both Mark and I had strong impressions we weren't supposed to go for some reason.  Who knows why...

That night we had cake and ice cream and opened presents.  He LOVED his cake, the Wreck it Ralph medal of heroes, and I was so excited about it as well.  I have never worked with fondant but it was surprisingly easy.  This is a very amateur cake but it worked for the 3 year old.

We turned the music on from the movie when Ralph gets the medal and Shortstop acted it out, until of course he wanted to eat! He whispers "No way" cause Ralph says that.

He loved his balance bike but is still getting used to it.  At first he didn't like the helmet but now is ok with it and so far has enjoyed riding it around the house with dad and even trying it out alone for a little while.

His favorite gift was the fake food.  For weeks now he has been turning blocks and legos and anything he can into food to bake and cook.  He loves to bring me a bowl of blocks and tell me it is a chocolate cake with hot dogs and honey.  Creative!  So when he saw his play food he was ecstatic.  He has already spent hours making meals, laying everything out, telling me what it is and cooking me concoctions of every sort.

Every birthday we give him a Mickey number to celebrate...I love these figurines!

He has his 3 year doctor appointment Monday so I will record his stats then and some fun things about him for journaling.  But man do we love this kid!  He makes us laugh every single day and reminds us to enjoy the little things in life.  His spirit and testimony are so strong and I am grateful to learn valuable lessons from the mind of my boy.  Love you my sweet Shortstop!
