Nails
Some more nail designs I have gotten done. Sadly I lost almost a year of pictures so I am missing a lot! But I still love going and visiting with my good friend and coming away with awesome nails.

More nails
I love posting the pictures of the designs I get done on my nails so I think I will do it every few months just so I can remember in case I want to repeat one.
Why does my hand look so old in this one? Blech!
I think that has been one of my favorite designs. It reminds me of paint swatch cards

Our little Ace is here!
My little girl is here! To be writing that fills me with such joy! She is healthy and safe and adorable and perfect. She fits right in with the family and everyone absolutely adores her. I can't imagine life without her and I think the boys feel the same. Each morning they ask to see her and hug her, they constantly comment on how cute and perfect she is and how much they love her. They fall over themselves trying to help and get me diapers and anything else she might need. And they beam with pride when other people see her and comment on how cute she is. Life is good!
And now the birth story. It didn't go exactly as I had planned but in the end my baby got here safe and sound so I really don't care. My mom was in town to stay with the boys and the night before we went to the hospital I got my nails done all cute and pink for baby girl. It's the little things!
I was induced the morning of January 14, 2016 at UVRMC. I was 39 weeks and 1 day. We chose to induce early because my births have gone fairly fast once I am ready to go and we live 35 minutes away from the hospital. I did not want to have her in the car. Mark and I left the house at 5:20am and were there by 6. I was all hooked up to pitocin and everything by 7:30am. I asked them to please do the pitocin slowly since I wanted to try natural. I am so not against epidurals but I wanted to try one without.
At 9:00 am Dr Savage came by and broke my water. I progressed at about 1/2 every 45 minutes so steady but not too fast. I was doing well with pain management and feeling positive about it all. They were upping my pitocin slowly so the contractions were not out of control...yet. Around 12:00 I was at a 6 and really starting to feel the pain. I walked around, tried new positions, and all the while held on to Mark. He was and is my rock. At 1:00 pm my doctor came back to the hospital because I was at a 7 and she said since I was going natural and this was my third, things would move fast so she would stay by my side. Hearing that helped me keep pushing through the pain. It was pretty intense at this point and contractions were one on top of the other. I felt nauseous and started throwing up, I guess this is a sign I would be ready to have a baby soon. Or so they thought. An hour later, at 2:00 pm, a miserable, long and tear filled hour later, I was only at an 8 1/2. Dr Savage was surprised but figured it would be any minute now. All I wanted was to be left alone by everyone except Mark. I held on dearly to his hand and stared into his eyes. I didn't want to talk. They tried putting a peanut shaped exercise ball between my legs to help my hips be more comfortable. Not only was I not dilating, but I was only 80% effaced and she was still high. She just wasn't coming down...I guess she was comfortable.
For the next hour and a half I don't remember much. Mark says I did great and was proud of me but I was in so much pain I don't even know what was happening. I know I threw up again and a few times said I couldn't do it but Mark supported me during it all. At 3:30pm Dr Savage checked and much to her chagrin, nothing had changed in the last hour and a half. I cried pretty hard hearing that and she said she was shocked. I asked her what I was doing wrong and she and Mark both said "Nothing!" It was hard to believe because I didn't understand why I wasn't progressing. She asked me what I thought was happening (she is a great listener). I told her the contractions were so on top of each other I couldn't catch my breath to let me body relax enough so baby could descend. She agreed and I asked her what she thought about me getting an epidural this late in the game. She said an hour ago she would have told me to push through but now she saw that my body was not relaxing and it might be a good idea. I took a peek at the pitocin and it was at a 16 so no wonder the contractions were so intense and unbearable! I looked at Mark and through tears said "What do you think?" He lovingly smiled and said whatever I chose was the right decision and he supported me. So I decided to go for an epidural. Dr Savage said she fully supported that and she left since an epidural was easier to control pushing and she could make it back in time.
Within what seemed like only minutes, the anesthesiologist had me on my side and the epidural going. I didn't even need to sit up while he did it since the contractions weren't stopping long enough for me to do that. I told him I wanted to feel the contractions still to a point and know when it was time to push and to please not numb me all the way. He said he would do a light epidural. The only time I felt panic or scared during the whole day was when I looked around and couldn't see Mark. With the anesthesiologist on one side and nurses on the other (they were putting a new IV in my right wrist because the one in my left had gotten too messed up with all the moving around I had been doing trying to handle the pain...yay for two IVs...blech), they had moved Mark away for a moment. I emotionally asked where he was an he calmly said he was still there and touched my leg so I knew he was. I don't know what I would do without that man. One more intense contraction later and I could already feel it working. I could feel my body relax and yet I could still feel the pressure of contractions. It was perfect.
30 minutes later I felt the strongest need to push. The nurse said she didn't think it would be time but I asked her to please check me. She did, laughed, and said "It's go time!" So that was the key. I needed to relax even for 30 minutes and then baby could come on down. She called the doctor and 20 minutes later Dr Savage walked in. The whole time I waited, I literally crossed my legs and breathed through every contraction wanting so badly to push. Mark kept my attention on other things and helped me wait for the doctor. She walked in, suited up and said "You tell me when you are ready and we will go at your pace." I was so in control of my legs I was able to put them in stirrups on my own, which I loved. I did not want to feel dead from the waist down. I told the doctor I wanted to push and three pushes later, sweet Annie Charlotte Elkington, ACE (gotta love her initials), was laying on my chest. She was stunning. She pinked up right away, had the perfect little round head and adorable button nose. Mark cut the cord while I watched, I did skin to skin right away and then they wiped her down, weighed her and wrapped her up to hand to her dad. I had to have some stitches as well but nothing too bad.
She was 7 lbs 4 oz, 19.5 inches long.
She did not cry a ton but enough that they weren't worried. She scored a 9 on the apgar and then they left the three of us alone for the next couple of hours. I nursed her (she was a champ!), we made phone calls and then they came and took us all to recovery together. A little later, all of use got to go to the nursery, which I had never gotten to do before. I watched them examine her and then eventually had to go back to the room because sitting in the wheelchair was getting painful. Mark stayed with her during her bath and then the two of them joined me in our room. She was so chill the entire time, the nurse kept laughing. Shots didn't make her cry, she just made an annoyed sound, the bath didn't make her cry, nothing did really. She just hung out waiting until it was over and she could be left alone.
Mark stayed both nights with me in the hospital since my mom had the boys. It was awesome. I love that sacred bonding time with a new baby and my husband. I am so grateful to have those moments.
The nurses were amazing, we had great food, and I loved the visitors. The boys meeting her was of course a highlight. They were so reverent with her and full of questions. Then after they held her they of course enjoyed opening and closing every door in the room and pushing every button on my bed, getting a tad rowdy but still fun and cute. They opened their gifts from Ace and were so happy she thought of them. It was pretty cute.
Coming home was bittersweet. I missed my boys but loved my time in the hospital. It has been an adjustment to have three kids but not as bad as I thought. Mark does everything around the house and lets me have my one on one time with Ace. The boys have adjusted perfectly and just act like she has always been a part of the family. There have been no jealousies or hurt feelings, just wanting to help. She is an amazing sleeper and eater already so I feel somewhat human in the mornings with anywhere from 4-6 hour stretches in between feedings. I have had people bring meals, friends bringing Shortstop home from school and lots of well wishing with phone calls and texts. Most of my family has met her and Mark's parents and one sister have as well. We feel very blessed and love watching her little face and holding her little body. She is truly perfect and even the boys notice a stronger Spirit in the home. The first night she was home Shortstop said "I like having Annie home mom...it makes everything in the house feel...happier."
And as I write this she is laying next to me squeaking and grunting in her sleep and I want to hold her so I am gonna stop writing and go snuggle my newborn.

She was covered in vernix which the boys weren't so it was a new thing to see. Weirdest and coolest stuff ever!
Mark loves when his babies calm down at the touch of his hand on their chests. He has gotten a picture like this with each baby
She loved having her hair washed

He never complains about the sleeping arrangements. So grateful for him!
So tired!
