Birthday Celebration Take 2

So Shortstop's birthday was on a Tuesday and Mark and I both took the day of work off. I am so glad we were able to spend the whole day together as a family. We slept in until 8:30! It was amazing and Shortstop must have known it was a great day to sleep in. We had Mickey Mouse pancakes for breakfast and I think they were a hit!

See, the birthday theme was Toy Story so not too far off with Disney right? I just didn't think I could figure out how to make a Buzz Lightyear pancake.

Then after the birthday boy's morning nap we took some pictures...

...then headed up to Thanksgiving point to go to the Dinosaur museum. Our original plan was to go to the zoo but thanks to the weather we needed to find something indoors. But the museum was great. Mark taught his boy all about dinosaurs and other science stuff...

...and I just took cute pictures. Look at how little he looks on this scale.

We ate at the cafe there and bought a mini T-rex stuffed animal for the birthday boy. On the way home we went to the BYU paleontology museum just to make it a full day of dinos!

Shortstop was so good and so interested in everything.

We came home and got ready for the birthday party. We only invited a few people because we really wanted all the focus to be on Shortstop.

Of course everyone got a little gift bag which included mini etch-a-sketchs, Sheriff badges, Rock Em Sock Em robot rings, little Army guys, candy and stickers. All the guests wore Toy Story candy necklaces. We had pizza (representing Pizza Planet from the movie) and then colorful cupcakes instead of cake (since he had a cake Sunday).

Opening presents was a lot of fun from his new chair.

This is where the Toy Story theme started. Mark and I found this chair and went with it. We got the toy chest and all the little Toy Story figurines.

Mark set up a bracket for the figurines to see who would win. He had to test out the fun factor of the toys first before giving them to his son. What a good dad!

Everyone else was so sweet giving/sending him books, toys and clothes. Shortstop has so many people who love him. We are starting a tradition by giving him a Mickey number figurine for each birthday. This year was of course 1 and we also got the zero for when he was born.

He did not get the whole blowing out the candle bit but he did try to grab it. And again, he dug right in and enjoyed his cupcake.

I still can't believe he is one. Where did this year go? Where did this baby go?

The night before his birthday Mark and I just sat and talked all about what a great year this has been, the day he was born and so much more. I got a little emotional and am not ashamed to admit it. He is just such a great boy and the time is going too fast!

Here are some fun things he is up to.

• Holds up one finger in answer to how old he is
• Signs "all done" after eating
• Reads his books by jabbering while turning pages
• Loves to give kisses and loves. He gives loves by rubbing his forehead on your forehead and saying a really sweet "ahhh"
• Likes to share his pacifier with his nighttime glow bug
• Has to be surrounded by toys while he sleeps
• Loves pudding and stores it in his cheeks while asking for more
• Still loves music and dancing. He now points to the laptop (where itunes are) and bounces up and down to ask for me to turn it on
• Thinks mommy singing "Itsy Bitsy Spider" and "Popcorn popping" and "Five little monkeys" is pretty funny. Who can blame him with my singing?
  
• Nods "yes"
• Knows how to make the touchdown sign
• Loves to cuddle and lay on shoulders
• Still loves to play with my hair and giggles anytime his hand gets caught in it
• Soooo close to crawling. He gets up on his hands and knees and rocks back and forth. But to get around he just spins on his stomach and either goes backwards or scoots
